The University has a profound historical significance. The original Nalanda University, established approximately 1600 years ago, is counted among the world's earliest residential universities. In 2016, the ruins of Nalanda were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The campus features two academic blocks with 40 classrooms, accommodating approximately 1900 students.
PM Modi's visit follows a political controversy sparked by Bihar JDU MP Devesh Thakur's remarks concerning the Yadav and Muslim communities in his constituency, Sitamarhi. JDU is a partner of the BJP in the NDA coalition.
