Alert: Landslide Shuts Badrinath Highway In Rudraprayag, Vehicles Stuck Amid Heavy Debris

ABP News Bureau   |  12 Aug 2025 11:11 AM (IST)

In Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, a fresh landslide has struck Sironbagar on the Badrinath National Highway, triggering chaos and traffic disruption. A massive chunk of the hillside collapsed, sending a torrent of soil, rocks, and debris tumbling onto the road. Several vehicles have been trapped, and authorities have been forced to shut down the highway completely. This stretch is notorious for frequent landslides, and recurring incidents have been forcing periodic closures of the Badrinath route. Continuous debris fall from the unstable slopes is making clearing operations difficult, even as heavy machinery is deployed on-site. Visuals from the scene show the highway completely choked, with stranded travelers anxiously waiting for the route to reopen. Local voices at the scene reflect frustration and uncertainty over when traffic will resume. The incident highlights the recurring threat of monsoon-triggered landslides in the region, which severely impact both tourism and local commute. Officials are urging travelers to avoid non-essential movement on this route until restoration is complete and conditions are declared safe. For now, traffic remains at a standstill, with rescue and clearance operations continuing under challenging weather conditions.
