Draupadi Murmu started her political journey in 1997, when she was chosen as the Counsellor from Rairangpur panchayat, Odisha. She went on to become MLA in Odisha Legislative assembly for two times. She did failed to gain seat in Lok Sabha after fighting from both Mayurbhanj and Rairangpur seats, but her big success was being the Governer of Jharkhand. Her work had always been recognised well by the government, as she won Neelkanth award by the Odisha government.
