The much-awaited counting of votes started simultaneously on Thursday morning for all the 288 Maharashtra Assembly constituencies which voted on October 21, officials said here. In Maharashtra, the main parties in the fray are the BJP, Shiv Sena, the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Assembly Elections in the state is said to be a close battle of two alliances: BJP-Shiv Sena on one hand, and the Congress-NCP on the other. The recently conducted Assembly Elections witnessed a slump in voter turnout compared to 2014 elections with estimated turnout in Maharashtra stood at 58 per cent and in Haryana 64 per cent.
