As Bihar copes with the deaths of close to 100 children in three weeks due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome, an expert said Wednesday consumption of unripe litchi containing a high concentration of toxin could be behind the AES outbreak in Muzaffarpur.
Independent child specialist Arun Shah, who formerly headed the Bihar chapter of Indian Association of Pediatrics, was closely associated with the study conducted in 2016 by Vellore-based epidemiologist T Jacob John.
