Jammu and Kashmir: 2 policemen injured as encounter breaks out between terrorists, security forces in Batamaloo

An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces near Batamaloo area of Jammu and Kashmir in the wee hours of Sunday morning. One policeman lost his life while three security forces personnel were injured during the fire exchange. J&K Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid took to Twitter and informed, "On a specific information about presence of terrorists in a hideout, an operation was launched in Batmaloo Srinagar leading to exchange of fire, one SOG boy martyred, one JKP and 2 CRPF Jawans sustained injuries, operation continues." However, The state's police chief shared no further details.
Following a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Diyarwani in Batamaloo area of the city early this morning, a police official reportedly said. The search operation soon turned into an encounter as the militants fired upon the forces, who retaliated, he added.
The gunfight is still underways and while the mobile internet service has been snapped in the city as a precautionary measure, the official said. More details on the incident are awaited.
