The recently conducted Assembly Elections witnessed a slump in voter turnout compared to 2014 elections with estimated turnout in Maharashtra stood at 58 per cent and in Haryana 64 per cent. Barring few 'sporadic incidences', Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha said that both the Assembly elections and all the by-elections have been "peaceful and smooth". 

The Election Commission is expected to declare the results in the evening by 5 pm. The counting of votes will start from 8 am.
