2 die as portion of Ghazipur landfill site falls on vehicles; Who is responsible?
A portion of Ghazipur landfill site fell on a couple of people and vehicles below this Friday afternoon. Rescue operation including fire engine team, ambulances and police personnel were at the spot. A car was pushed into the Kondli canal flowing next to the garbage dump. A two-wheeler also got submerged due to the impact that came falling below. The landfill site adjoining Ghazibad stands about 50 metres above ground level. It is right next to the Ghazipur mandi (market) where poultry items are largely sold. There are three landfill sites in the city - Bhalswa (in the northwest), Okhla (southeast) and Ghazipur (east). During summers, the landfill sites catch fire.
