A political storm is brewing in Bihar as flood conditions worsen in the state. Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the floods become an excuse for the opposition to raise their attack on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Pappu Yadav who started his political party, Jan Adhikar Party, has made some controversial remarks about the floods in the state. After touring flood-affected areas of East Champaran, Yadav said that Bihar’s floods are the illegitimate child of its political leaders. He also said that the annual floods are the result of corruption in the state and that it has become a cash cow for leaders and officials of the water department.
