On World Environment Day 2020, where the world is celebrating the theme of biodiversity, the biodiversity hotspot in South Asia with several species of trees including the carbon scrubber Mangrove forests of Sunderbans are in danger. The decline in the forest is a result of the natural calamities one after the other. After the cyclones Amphan and Nisarga, Mangroves in the Western Coast as well as the Sunderbans have declined which might threaten human beings as these are the trees which absorb strong winds and hazards like cyclones, they protect the human settlements and are home to a variety of species of animals.
