They say that time and disease affect the poor and the farmers first. And if the farmers themselves are poor then there is nothing left to redeem them. This is the situation with onion farmers in Nashik. They were already debt-ridden and now the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown has added on to their troubles. While onions are being sold at Rs 40 per kg in Mumbai and Delhi, these farmers do not have buyers for their crops. Why are traders fearful of buying onions?
