Global population hit the 8-billion mark on November 15, according to the United Nations. India is the largest contributor to the growth with a population of 177 million, and is expected to surpass China by next year to become the world's most populous nation.

However, the global growth estimate is now likely to slow down in the next 15 years, announced the United Nations.

“While it took the global population 12 years to grow from 7 to 8 billion, it will take approximately 15 years— until 2037— for it to reach 9 billion, a sign that the overall growth rate of the global population is slowing," the UN said.

But the announcement of world population hitting the 8-billion mark by UN soon flooded the internet with hilarious memes and messages.

"Today the World population hit the 8 billion mark and you still haven’t found yourself a soulmate??
Isn’t that a little strange????" wrote a Twitter user.

"The world population is at 8 billion can you stop double texting?" wrote another.

A user shared a screen grab from a Bollywood film on the population growth.

"No better visual representation to there are 8 billion people and I am still single," wrote a third while sharing the meme.

Zomato and Dharma Productions also reacted to the announcement. "The world now has 8 billion people and 0 veg biryanis," wrote Zomato

"You: 8 billion people in the world and yet..."mera pehla pyaar adhoora reh gaya" wrote Dharma Productions while sharing a screenshot from the movie 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'.
