New Delhi: Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve recently posted a video of an albino hog deer spotted at Kohora, the main entrance to the Kaziranga National Park, Assam.
The video, shared on Twitter, has left people enthralled. The world-famous national park posted the video with the caption, “Albino hog deer at Kohora”.
The video shows two deer walking, one of them an albino. The white hog deer is seen sniffing the grass. The video has garnered more than 15,000 views, and received more than a thousand likes. Twitter users showered happy comments on the video.
One user wrote, "It's beautiful. But the challenge is albinos cannot camouflage and survival story is really toughest. 😔”
Another user posted, “Unique”.
Earlier this year, a wildlife photographer captured pictures of a rare white hog deer spotted in the Burapahar Range of the Kaziranga National Park, The Sentinel Assam reported. A few local residents from the area had notified the photographer about the whereabouts of the rare animal, the report said.
According to a PTI report, the animal was sighted along the 12 line area of Amguri Tea Estate in Nagaon's Kaliabor sub-division. Quoting Ramesh Gogoi, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of the Kaziranga National Park, the report said this particular white deer was seen for the first time, and that it periodically comes out of the park to feed with other brown deer.
The white colour of the deer is completely genetic, caused by gene mutation, and it is not a separate species of the deer family, the report quoted the DFO as saying. Among 40,000 hog deer in Kaziranga, one or two such rare white hog deer can be spotted, according to Gogoi.
