A traveller in the Unites States reaped the benefits of an 18-hour-long flight delay. Phil Stringer was to leave from Oklahoma City to his home in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sunday when his flight got delayed. By the time the flight took off other passengers had booked another flight or given up flying out that day. Stringer did not shelve his plan and was rewarded by being the only person on the flight when it finally departed.
That was not it, Phil also got a free first class pass and a private party with the crew, reported the New York Post.
Later, Stringer in an interview with Insider said that he felt awful that the crew members were called in to staff the flight just for him. But after the plane took off his concerns dissipated as his journey was turned into an exclusive "private party" in the skies by the flight attendants, who allowed him to sit wherever he wanted and served him whatever drink or food he asked for.
Sharing his experience with the media outlet, Stringer said, "I went to the gate and nobody was there. I was like, 'Did you guys already board everyone?'" he said, adding that the flight attendant "was like, 'No, honey, you're the only passenger."
He also said that he tried to change his flight several times but this was the only one that worked, as he needed to get home.
“They were kind of teasing me, like, ‘Really, bro, you couldn’t have left a few hours later?'" he said.
“I believe that your attitude determines your destination. Yeah, it was a sucky day. No one wants to stay in the airport for 18 hours, but if you have a positive view, you can turn something into a lot of fun," he added.
