A group of infuriated passengers shattered the glass and vandalised a train after not getting any space for boarding in Uttar Pradesh's Basti on Tuesday. A video of the incident, which has gone viral since then shows a youth breaking the glass pane of the Mumbai-bound Antyodaya Express at Basti railway station.
Other passengers in the video were seen dismantling the iron bar grill of the windowpane in an attempt to enter the coach through the window.
An FIR was registered by the Railway Protection Force, Basti under section 145 of the railway act against unidentified passengers responsible for the vandalism in a coach of 15101 Chhapra-Mumbai Antyodaya Express, reported The Times of India.
According to the report, quoting sources, passengers inside the train had secured the coach from within to prevent additional boardings as the train was exceedingly crowded. The action, however, angered the passengers waiting on the platform to board the train at Basti railway station.
Subsequently, a youth pulled up a heavy stone and slammed the glass panel of the entry door while other passengers damaged the iron grill of the window.
In a subsequent video from later that night, an RPF constable was seen assisting an elderly woman at Manakpur railway station to board the substantially overcrowded Mumbai-bound train.
The RPF Lucknow had notified its counterpart in Manakpur regarding the vandalism that had transpired at Basti railway station.
No arrests have been made so far in connection with the incident that occurred late Tuesday night at approximately 10:30 pm, as per the report.
"We have the footage of the vandalism, and our teams are attempting to establish the identity of the men involved in the matter," said Chandra Mohan Mishra, the senior divisional security commissioner of Northeastern Railway.
