New Delhi: Faisal Chaudhary, a Congress worker in Meerut who looks like Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, joined the march in Baghpat on Wednesday as the Congress' ongoing "Bharat Jodo Yatra" entered Uttar Pradesh, reported news agency ANI. After making a night's rest in Shamli's Ailum village, the Bharat Jodo Yatra resumed its journey around 6 a.m. on Thursday. Despite the bitter cold, dozens of people carrying the Tricolor marched through the countryside.

Other members of the Congress were with Chaudhary, who was seen in the same white T-shirt that Gandhi had been wearing for the majority of the journey.

“I am a member of the Meerut Congress Committee. I have been walking since yesterday afternoon (Tuesday). People say I look like Rahul Gandhi. It feels good. They even click pictures with me. More importantly, I am also a worker of the Congress,” Chaudhary told news agency ANI.

On asked about the impact of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, he said, “This will give a positive message. We have been raising the issues of hatred, farmers and unemployment.”

The march is expected to end its journey in the politically important state of Haryana, which sends 80 members to the Lok Sabha, in the evening on Thursday.

Senior Congress leaders like Jairam Ramesh, a former Union minister, and Brijlal Khabri, the party's state chief, were with Gandhi on the yatra as it traveled through the Shamli district.

The national flag will be hoisted by Rahul Gandhi in Srinagar on January 30 as part of the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which began on September 7 from Kanyakumari.
