A Bihar girl who was abandoned by her father when she was a child following her mother’s death scored 99.4 per cent in Class 10 board exams. The girl's perseverance amid all odds was appreaciated by BJP MP Varun Gandhi, who called it an "amazing tale of sacrifice and dedication".

The story of Sreeja, one of the state toppers, came to light after Varun Gandhi shared a video of her with her grandmother. Sreeja was abandoned by her father after her mother passed away. The girl has been staying with her maternal grandparents.

"The daughter securing 99.4% marks in Class 10 shows that talent does not seek opportunities. If I can be of any use to you, I will be lucky," Varun Gandhi tweeted along with the video.

In the video, the grandmother of the girl says her son-in-law must be regretting his decision to abandon his daughter.

"I am extremely delighted with the results," the grandmother says. Speaking of her son-in-law, the woman says, "He never came to see her, never even tried to contact her. After my daughter's death, he remarried and build a separate family. But after knowing her Class 10 results, he must be regretting his decision."

"But I got lucky. I got to raise a bright child," the grandmother says at the end of the video.

As the video went viral, several people lauded the efforts of the girl and her grandparents. "Best wishes to the girl for this success. Patience and constant hard work are the seeds of success, you have proved this, proud of you," wrote one user.

"Many many congratulations and best wishes to the girl. May you progress and brighten the name of your maternal grandparents," another user tweeted.

According to a report in Times Of India, Sreeja, a student of DAV Public School-BSEB Colony, wants to become an electrical engineer. She has scored 100 in two subjects -- Sanskrit and Science, and 99 in English, Mathematics and Social Studies.
