The ninth Parliamentary Speakers' Summit (P20) kickstarted at the Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in the national capital Delhi on Friday. The inaugural address of the summit represented by G20 members and delegates from other leading international organisations was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who spoke on terrorism and various other issues. Also on the sidelines of the summit, President of Senate Mexico Ana Lilia Rivera Rivera tied a Rakhi on PM Modi's hand.

In a video shared on X, formerly Twitter, by news agency ANI, Rivera can be seen tying a read and yellow thread on PM Modi's hand. A person can also be seen explaining to her how to tie the rakhi. After Rivera ties the rakhi, the Prime Minister blesses her by placing his hand over her head.

Meanwhile, PM Modi while speaking at the inaugural event of the P20 Summit laid emphasis on working towards fighting terrorism. Highlighting how India has been facing cross-border terrorism for decades the Prime Minister said, "India has been facing cross-border terrorism for many years now. Around 20 years ago, terrorists targeted our Parliament at the time when the session was on. The world is also realising how big a challenge terrorism is for the globe and that it is against humanity. Parliaments in the world and their representatives have to think how to work together in this fight against terrorism."

"A world full of conflicts and confrontation cannot benefit anyone. A divided world cannot give solutions to the challenges before us. This is a time for peace and brotherhood, a time to move together, a time to move forward together. This is the time for development and welfare of all," he further added.

The event is being attended by the Speakers of Parliaments of G20 members and invitee countries.

The thematic sessions during this P20 Summit will focus on four subjects of transformation in people's lives through public digital platforms, women-led development, accelerating SDGs and sustainable energy transition, reported PTI.
