New Delhi: An unidentified middle-aged man was knocked down by a bus in Mumbai's Powai, but in a miraculous occurrence, he survived the accident unscathed even as the video showed him being 'run over' by the bus as other horrified pedestrians watched on.
According to news agency IANS, the incident happened at 2.40 p.m. on Tuesday, just outside the Everest Heights Buildings near the LakeSide complex in the Powai area, and was captured on CCTV, the video shared on social media immediately went viral.
The 45-second video captured vehicles slowly moving on a narrow but crowded road without a divider, several pedestrians can be seen walking around or crossing the road carefully.
Suddenly, a man starts crossing the road when an oncoming bus loaded with students knocks him down from behind, he stumbles and tries to get up, but is thrown flat and the bus runs over him completely.
Some shocked pedestrians and a local building security guard noticed the accident. They apparently waved and shouted at the bus driver, who stopped the vehicle and opened his door to look at the commotion.
Soon after, the "run-over" man got up, apparently shaken but unhurt, and hurriedly walked up to the bus driver to register his protest.
According to IANS, a local marketing consultant identified as Pradeep S. Menon said that traffic has assumed crazy proportions in the residential-cum-commercial Powai-Chandivali areas. The Mumbai Traffic Police and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) must pay urgent attention to avoid such incidents "which may not always result in a miracle", he added.
