Google paid tribute to women across the globe on International Women's Day, March 8, 2023 by creating a special doodle. The popular search engine has shared an animation of various ways women support women. Incidentally International Women's Day clashes with the festival of Holi.


Celebrating the day is important as it highlights the contribution of women to our society and celebrates the achievements of women in the cultural, political and socioeconomic fields. 


It is also highlights gender equality, equal pay, discrimination against women, and hoping for a diverse, equitable, and inclusive world.

The search engine is celebrating International Women's Day 2023 on Wednesday with a creative Doodle that shows a woman delivering a speech as a crowd of women of different age groups look up to her. It also deicts  moms taking care of their babies, women marching to change the world, and a woman doctor. 


The Doodle also featured vignettes within each GOOGLE letter, highlighting many areas women support each other to "progress and improve each other's quality of life".

The history of International Women's Day dates back to the early 20th century when women in Europe and the United States began to organize and advocate for women's rights. In 1908, a group of women in New York City held the first Women's Day march to demand better working conditions and the right to vote. Two years later, an International Women's Conference was held in Copenhagen, where delegates from 17 countries agreed to establish an annual International Women's Day to promote women's suffrage and labour rights.


Since then, International Women's Day has grown into a global movement, with events and activities taking place in countries around the world.
