Former German finance minister Christian Lindner was smeared with foam by a protester during a campaign appearance. The incident happended when he was speaking for his pro-business liberal Free Democrats (FDP) event on Thursday.

As per the visuals, Lindner was hit in the face which appeared to be a pie made from shaving foam. He was seen wiping his face with a handkerchief, provided by one of the people from the gathering.

The video was posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Lindner himself. Various users have also posted the video of the incident on social media.

In the video, a woman was seen throwing the pie on Linder. According to a police spokesman told dpa, as reported by Yahoo news, the lady is being investigated on suspicion of assault and insult.

Lindner tasted the foam pie, which was labelled "For the love of freedom", and continued his speech. The security staffs present at the spot, meanwhile, wrestled the woman to the floor.

As per Yahoo news, the 34-year-old Linder who is a politician for the left-wing Left Party, joked that it was not a cream, unfortunately, and was just a soap. "At least they could have done that better, then I would have got something out of it", he said.

The woman addressed the local politician as "Dear Mr Lindner" before throwing the pie on the latter's face. The pie was thrown from a short distance and, Lindner also put back some of the foam back into the woman's hair.

As per the reports, Left Party state leader Hennis Herbst has identified the suspected pie-thrower to dpa as Christiane Kiesow. She is a member of the party's executive leadership for the district that includes Greifswald.

While Herbst said that the Left Party distances itself from such actions, an FDP spokeswoman denounced the incident as an unacceptable assault, as reported in the media.
