A Twitter user listened to the voices and drunkenly bought Rs 2500 worth of Bengaluru biryani. She was in Mumbai at the time. Even if one disregards the cost or the distance that the biryani must travel, one must consider the reality that the dish will arrive the following day. That isn't ideal.
"Did I drunk order 2500 rs worth of biryani all the way from Bangalore..." the woman - whose handle is @subiii - tweeted with a screenshot of the order page.
Both the tweet and the account were later taken down.
According to the screenshot, the order was placed at Meghana Foods in Bengaluru, which has been dubbed "the greatest" by many. The order would have arrived on Sunday if it had been tweeted on Saturday.
The Zomato Twitter team, delighted, joined in on the fun, tweeting: "Subii, you'll have a happy hangover once the order is at your doorstep. Do let us know about the experience."
How did the biryani taste? After the food arrived, @subiii tweeted, 'greatest decision ever...' with photos of the biryani, salan, salad, and papad.
"... where is my paycheck, Zomato?"
Many others applauded @subiii's restaurant pick, with one saying, "Meghna Foods is the best (maybe after Biryani Zone)." Another wrote." "As someone who really misses Meghana's biryani, I entirely support this drunken decision," said another. The tweet even generated a debate about which city has the "best" biryani, with Kolkata and Hyderabad among the leading contenders.
Zomato offers the 'intercity legends' service, which allows clients to order chosen specialties from a few restaurants in major Indian cities if they are unsure how an order was placed across the states. These orders will be delivered in a few days... so plan accordingly.
"Zomato Legends is a new offering by Zomato that ensures delivery of India's most iconic dishes from legendary restaurants across cities by using mobile refrigeration technology that improves the shelf life of the dish..." the business claimed when the service was unveiled.
