Despite alarming pollution levels on Diwali, Delhi-NCR residents burst brackets, bringing the city's alarming air quality back into the spotlight. The Delhi-NCR region was blanketed in smog on Monday morning. Images from across Delhi showed thick haze covering the roads, reducing visibility and making it difficult to see beyond a few hundred metres. 


On Monday morning, AQI levels in some areas of the city exceeded 900. The AQI level in the India Gate area, in the heart of the city, was 999. According to aqicn.org, the AQI in the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium area was 999 in the morning and later dropped to 553. The index stood at 970 in Pusa, and 849 in the Anand Vihar area, which is one of the city's most polluted areas. Read the full report here


The Supreme Court had ruled on November 7 that its order prohibiting the use of barium-containing firecrackers applies to all states and is not limited to the Delhi-NCR region, which suffers from severe air pollution.
