Celebrity Chef Ranveer Brar has caught the attention of the internet as a video of his opulent 'Dal Kashkan' went viral. The delicacy, served in a 'sandook' with the touch of 24-carat gold has left netizens amused. All thanks to the touch of gold, the humble 'dal' is now an internet sensation. Served in a wooden chest, the dal which is priced at Rs 1300 (58 dirhams) is tempered in front of the customers with powdered gold and not just regular spices.

The video shared on Instagram showed the fancy 'dal' being brought in a wooden chest with the chef pouring in the liquid gold just before serving it at Ranveer Brar's restaurant at Dubai Festive City Mall. The video which created ripples on the internet was captioned: "24 Carat Golden Tadke Wali Dal at Kashkan by Ranveer Brar, Dubai Festive City Mall."

The viral video drew varied reactions from netizens who wondered how one would digest the dal as "gold cannot be easily absorbed by the body". The cost of the dal also bothered some as people questioned how many could afford the dal priced at Rs 1300.

An Instagram user said, "People who can afford this, I want to ask them: why?". Another commented: "So this dal was preserved in this 'Sanduk' for how many years???"

Ranveer Brar, in an interview with The National, stated that he wanted to veer away from serving "stereotypical food that people usually see in restaurants."

According to the restaurant's website, Brar's Middle-Eastern endeavour "Kashkan is a voyage to experience India through its culture, festivities, traditions, hospitality, and indelible flavours! It is a culinary odyssey he curated, where he explores India's diverse landscapes and cultures to create a remarkable gastronomic journey."

However, it is not the first time that gold has been used to make food stand out. A restaurant in Dubai named O'Pao made it to the news in 2021 for serving a 22-carat Gold Vada Pao. The restaurant had launched the vada pao in its new shiny avatar and claimed that it was the world's first 22 Karat O-Gold Vada Pao.

Also, if you are far away from Dubai and want to dish out a fancy dish adorned with a hint of luxury for your guests, you can order the 'gold varak' (gold leaves) online where 24-carat edible gold leaves are easily available at reasonable prices starting from Rs 300.
