Almost instantly after Animal Welfare Board of India on Wednesday issued a notice appealing to people to celebrate "Cow Hug Day" on February 14, the internet users took to Twitter to post funny memes regarding the bizarre circular.
"All cow lovers may celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug Day keeping in mind the importance of mother cow and make life happy and full of positive energy," read the notice issued by the Animal Welfare Board.
The board highlighted the benefits of keeping a cow and pointed out how the animal forms the backbone of the country's rural economy. They also held the western culture responsible for the Vedic traditions getting extinct and therefore urged people to hug cows to bring emotional richness and to increase individual and collective happiness.
However, the internet seemed in total disagreement with the circular and memes flooded the Twitter. Here's a look at some of the funniest ones.
One Twitter user voiced his support for all the loners out there and shared an image of cow standing lonely at a beach.
"Advanced cow hug day wishes," wrote another user sharing the meme.
"After Matru Pitru Diwas, we now have Cow Hug de on Valentine's day. Literally not a single person at Animal Welfare Board thought what Hug day could mean in Hindi," joked a third.
While a fourth joked about how to get the cow's consent and wrote, "Forget everything else, tell me how to convey to the #cow 🐄 that we are approaching it to give a hug? Also how to know that the cow has given its consent for the same?."
Another user voiced a similar concern and jokingly wrote, "before you hug a cow, pls ask for consent."
