New Delhi: An angry wife allegedly killed her husband with an axe in Chhattisgarh's Durg district as she was upset about his frequent taunts about her dark complexion, police said on Tuesday as reported by news agency PTI. Police officials said that angry wife Sangeeta Sonwani (30) killed her husband Anant Sonwani (40) with an axe in the Amaleshwar police station area of the district. In this case, the police have arrested the accused wife and have started investigating the matter.


"As per the preliminary investigation, the victim used to call his wife ugly and frequently taunt her about her dark skin. The couple had quarrelled on the issue several times in the past," he said.


Devansh Rathore, sub-divisional officer of police (Patan area) said that Anant's body was marked with a sharp weapon and his private part was chopped off.


"The couple entered into an argument on Sunday night and in a fit of rage, Sangeeta allegedly attacked her husband with the axe kept in the house and killed him on the spot," the official said.

"The accused tried to mislead the villagers the next morning by saying that someone had killed her husband, but later admitted to have committed the offence during police interrogation," the official added.


Police officials said that the police have arrested Sangeeta for allegedly killing Anant.


"The woman has been booked under section 302 (murder) and other relevant provisions of the IPC and further probe is underway," Rathore said.


He told that Sangeeta is Anant's second wife. Anant's first wife has died. Anant has a 12-year-old son from his first wife and a four-month-old daughter from Sangeeta.
