Bengaluru citizens were pleasantly surprised when the city’s sky came to life. The burst of colours including green, pink, and yellow on the sky astonished people and generated widespread curiosity about the phenomenon.

Excited residents took over social media and tried to understand the reasoning behind the vibrant canvas in the sky. Many initially thought a cloud formation or atmospheric anomaly was behind the appearance. Users shared images of the sky and looked around for explanations.

Some of the users thought it was Northern lights. However, the source for the vibrant sky was actually a comet. As per a report by The Hindu, the display was a result of the Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) which was passing near the Earth.

This comet is not very predictable in its appearance unlike Halley’s Comet. Therefore, its appearance emerged as a rare opportunity for sky gazers.

Many users expressed their admiration for the beauty of the phenomenon. Media reports suggest that the comet could actually be visible to Hyderabad residents also, with sightings possible until Wednesday. The comet was discovered last year in January by the Purple Mountain Observatory in China.
