Finding a place to live on rent is always an arduous task. And when it comes to a place like Bengaluru the search becomes even tougher as demand for rental properties due to growing migration of software businesses and engineers in the city is high. What's surprising is that Bengaluru landlords have been treating the rental process more like a job application than a simple transaction.
A post shared on the microblogging site Twitter about a chat between a landlord and a broker has gone viral. Screenshots shared online showed the tenant asking the broker for the person's LinkedIn or Twitter profile along with his company joining certificate, 10th and 12th mark sheets, and some ‘other’ documents like Aadhar or PAN card.
Later the landlord rejects the prospective tenant because his 12th grade marks weren't as high (90%) as he wanted.
"Marks don't decide your future, but it definitely decides whether you get a flat in banglore or not", read the caption of the post shared by a user named Shubh.
"i can't believe my cousin brother got denied for a rented flat by owner cause he got 76% in class 12th & owner was expecting atleast 90%," he further wrote in the thread.
Since being shared the post has amassed 1.2 million views, 13.9k likes and several comments.
"haha, this is a sad reality & when my owner got to know about my work, she invited me over for coffee," commented on use on the post.
"soon we will have entrance exam for Bangalore flats!!!," wrote another user.
While another jokingly wrote, "Is he offering the hand of his daughter along with the apartment??."
"bruh!!! already preparing my resume for moving to Banglore!," wrote a fourth.
