The South Indian dish Dosa is amongst the most popular foods in India. From cafes to restaurants to the roadside food stalls, you can find it almost anywhere. Various establishments aim to master this South Indian delicacy, though the ingredients may vary a little depending upon the region. Now a video from one such restaurant in Bengaluru has gone viral but for the wrong reason.

In the viral footage shared on Facebook by ‘Thefoodiebae,’ a chef of a  cafe can be observed employing a rather bizarre method – using a broom to cleanse the surface of a big tawa before generously dousing the Dosas with ghee as crowds of customers anxiously waiting for their orders.

First the chef sprays water on a huge tawa and proceeds to sweep it using a broom. Next, he starts spreading batter in circular motions to make the 12 dosas on the same tawa. Then the cook picks what looks like a packet of ghee and begins to pour it on each dosa batter. Later, he adds some filling in the middle of each dosa, and spreads a lot of podi masala on top of them. He then folds them and puts them on  plates with banana leaves, which is then served to the customers with chutney and sambhar.

The video since being shared has received a whopping 17 million views and 129k likes. The comments box is also filled with mixed reaction from users. Some of them have criticised the use of broom for wiping the tawa, while other have explained the reason behind it.

"I love Dosa .But I hate that broom," commented one user on the post.

"No matter how high tech dosa becomes, the broom always stays!," wrote another user

"Not a healthy dosa, it is poisonous. Notice the wastage of ghee and podi, national wastage. Not recommended," commented a third.
