A serene visit to Arunachal Pradesh's picturesque Sela Lake turned perilous for tourists who attempted to walk on the frozen surface and were trapped when the ice gave way. The incident reportedly occurred in Tawang, a popular destination known for its snow-covered mountains and frozen lakes, especially during winter.
A viral video on social media shows tourists stuck in frozen ice as others walk around them. Bystanders quickly responded with ropes, managing to save the trapped individuals.
"The ice may look solid, but it can be unpredictable. Stay safe and enjoy the beauty from a distance! Your safety is more important than any photo op,” an Instagram user Farhad warned in a post.
Farhad, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, shared his experience, "Safety First: Avoid Walking on Sela Lake! The beauty of a frozen lake can be mesmerising, but it hides dangers beneath the surface. Just recently, I witnessed a few people venture out onto Sela Lake, and the ice began to crack beneath their feet!"
"I rushed to help those who fell through, and thankfully we managed to pull them out safely. This experience reminded me how quickly things can turn dangerous. People were hesitating to help, but once I acted courageously, others followed to assist. All I learned from today is good things start from you!” he added.
Locals and guides have consistently warned against walking on frozen lakes, citing the potential dangers. Despite these warnings, some tourists venture onto the frozen Sela Lake. The administration has reiterated its advisory urging tourists to avoid such risky activities.
