New Delhi: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Tuesday decided to opt out of the opposition meet called by TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee slated to be held in New Delhi on Wednesday. The TRS came to this decision after a prolonged meeting chaired by CM KCR with the party leaders at Pragathi Bhavan in Hyderabad.
After Rahul Gandhi's recent scathing attacks on the TRS government, the KCR cabinet raised strong objections to the Congress being invited to the opposition meet on Presidential Polls, which is slated for July 18. "There's no question of sharing any platform with the Congress," TRS said in a statement, as quoted by NDTV.
Congress-TRS Rivalry
Congress and TRS rivalry has been rumbling for quite some time now and it started with war of words ahead of the 2018 Assembly elections and both parties still don't share a cordial bond
In his recent visit to Telangana, Rahul Gandhi asserted that Congress will not join with CM KCR at any level. Rahul Gandhi, addressing a massive rally in Warangal in May, said that the Telangana CM KCR has betrayed people of the state and looted thousands of crores of rupees. Also on Telangana Formation Day on June 2, Rahul Gandhi, taking to his Twitter, claimed that the people of Telangana had suffered "extreme misgovernance" by TRS in last 8 years.
Also at the state level, former TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy ridiculed KCR's decision to launch a national party.
Ahead of Rahul Gandhi's visit to Warangal, there has been a war of words between the leaders of TRS and Congress. Ahead of the Congress leader's visit, TRS MLC and former Nizamabad MP K Kavitha claimed that Rahul Gandhi hasn't supported TRS during the paddy crop issue in parliament.
Besides Kavitha, Telangana IT and Industries Minister KTR heaped up criticism over Congress and demanded an apology to the farmers of the nation for ignoring them for decades.
