New Delhi: In a bizarre incident, a man in Telangana’s Nalgonda district dialled 100 repeatedly to complain against his wife for not cooking mutton. He was later arrested, police said.

According to an IANS report, the arrested, identified as Naveen of Cherla Gowraram village in Kanagal mandal, dialled the police helpline six times to lodge a complaint against his wife on Friday.

He was in an inebriated condition and was infuriated by his wife who refused to cook the dish on the day of a festival.

Initially, the police ignored him as a prank caller but later as he persisted, the police officer, in charge of handling phone calls, took it up with his senior and decided to take action against him. They traced the number and reached his house the following morning to take him into custody.

According to police, during interrogation it was revealed that Naveen had returned home drunk on Friday night. He had also brought mutton and asked his wife to cook it for him. However, after his wife refused to oblige, under the influence of alcohol, he started dialling the police helpline to lodge a complaint.

He has been booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 290 (public nuisance) and 510 (misconduct in public by a drunken person), a police officer said.

Urging the public, police asked them not to misuse the helpline facility as it leads to loss of valuable time and can also affect their response in attending genuine emergency calls.
