Hyderabad: Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) Chairman and Nizamabad Rural MLA Bajireddy Govardhan on Wednesday wrote a letter to VC Sajjanar, managing director of TSRTC stating that he decided not to take a salary as TSRTC chairman as he is already paid as an MLA.

"TSRTC Chairman Baji Reddy Govardhan has decided voluntarily not to withdraw salary and allowances from TSRTC. The Chairman said that his constituency allowances are sufficient," TSRTC said in a release on Wednesday. "TSRTC is reeling under losses and hence he doesn't want to be a burden to TSRTC and also wants to lead as an example," the release further said.

Welcoming the decision of MLA Baji Reddy, TSRTC MD, IPS VC Sajjanar extended special thanks to him. TSRTC officials and the staff also appreciated his decision.

Nizamabad Rural MLA Baji Reddy Govardhan was appointed as TSRTC chairman on September 20, earlier this year, by CM KCR, and he took charge at RTC Bhavan. He promised to do his best for the development of RTC.

Taking this news to his Twitter handle, Baji Reddy said that he would be working for the development of the organisation.

The RTC fare hike has recently sparked a heated debate. At the time, Sajjanar said that the RTC was intending to raise bus fees due to increased diesel prices. He stated that the Chief Minister would make a decision on the matter of a fare increase. Sajjanar said that 49 thousand employees are working in Telangana RTC, and all of them are being paid their salaries on the 1st of every month.

MD Sajjanar said they are coming up with new ideas to strengthen RTC financially. The decision was taken to allow UPI payments at several bus stands in Hyderabad.
