Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi MPs led by TRS Lok Sabha floor leader Nama Nageswara Rao staged a protest outside Parliament, demanding that the Centre announce a national farm produce policy.


The staged a demonstration near the Gandhi statue on the Parliament complex, showing placards that read slogans such as "Do not punish the farmers", "Do not do injustice to the developing states". The TRS MPs demanded that the national farm produce policy should be announced immediately.  


TRS parliamentary party leader K Keshavarao, Rajya Sabha members Suresh Reddy, Banda Prakash, Joginapalli Santosh Kumar, Lok Sabha members Dr Gaddam Ranjit Reddy, Bibi Patil, Manne Srinivas Reddy, Pothuganti Ramu, Venkatesh and others are in Delhi to attend the Winter Session of Parliament that commenced on Monday.


The MPs said due to pro-farmer initiatives by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, farmers in Telangana were receiving adequate irrigation water, fertilisers, seeds, Rythu Bandhu farm incentive uninterrupted and quality power supply, among others. As a result, the State's farm yield has improved dramatically. They urged that now that the contentious farm laws have been overturned, the Union government should embrace pro-farmer policies.


Earlier, TRS MP K Keshava Rao gave an adjournment motion in the Rajya Sabha on paddy procurement in Telangana, but it was rejected by Speaker Om Birla, following which the TRS MPs raised slogans.


Speaking to the media on the premises of Telangana Bhavan, TRS MPs alleged that the Centre was discriminating against Telangana on the procurement of grains. MP K Keshavarao demanded justice for Telangana farmers. According to the MPs, 1.2 crore tonnes of grain was harvested in Telangana during the monsoon season, and 62 lakh acres of paddy was sown in the state.
