Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLC K Kavitha along with over 2,000 women on Sunday offered "Bonam" -- a special flower pot -- to goddess Mahankali at the renowned Mahankali temple in Secunderabad. She along with minister T Srinivas Yadav and thousands of devotees participated in the annual fete. Later on Sunday, CM KCR will also participate in the prayers at the Mahakali temple.
‘Bonalu’ is a Telangana traditional Hindu festival, in which people offer prayers to the goddess Mahakali. It falls during 'Ashada Masam' (July/August). This festival is celebrated in Hyderabad and Secunderabad and also in the other parts of the state. Special poojas are performed for goddess Yellamma during the first and last day of the festival. The festival is considered as a form of thanksgiving to the Goddess after the fulfillment of vows.
Taking this celebration to her Twitter handle, MLC Kavitha wrote, "Participated in Bonalu festival celebrations at Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad."

In the ongoing two-day Bonalu festival at the Mahankali temple in Secunderabad, it is estimated that over seven lakh people to take part. The organisers were instructed to take precautionary measures as the city has been battered by rains earlier this week. Over 3,500 police personnel have been deployed for the two-day event in Secunderabad and they were instructed to work round the clock to give devotees a hassle-free experience.
Traffic restrictions have been imposed in all the roads approaching the Mahankali temple in Secunderabad.
