Hyderabad: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) boycotted the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament on Tuesday, citing several reasons, including the Centre's stance on paddy procurement from the state and the suspension of 12 MPs. TRS MPs staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, taking slogans against the government and supporting farmers. The members of Parliament were all dressed in black.

They decided that they would boycott the entire Winter Session because the Centre had failed to respond to their requests about the procurement of paddy from Telangana farmers.

Earlier, the TRS MPs staged protests in both the Houses and obstructed the proceedings. K Keshava Rao, a Rajya Sabha member, urged that the Centre should acquire pending grain from the state on emeregency basis, claiming that lakhs of tonnes of paddy will otherwise degrade. He was outspoken in opposition to the Centre's paddy procurement discrimination against Telangana.

TRS MPs have disrupted Parliamentary proceedings since the Winter Session began on November 29, demanding assurances from the Centre on paddy procurement for the upcoming Yasangi (Rabi) season, as well as the lifting of rice stocks held by the State government. For the past six days, they have held protests in both houses. They disrupted Parliamentary proceedings by shouting slogans and holding placards seeking justice for Telangana farmers.

TRS leaders proposed adjournment motions to discuss farmers' difficulties, a national standard procurement policy, and legal assurances that farmers would get the Minimum Support Price (MSP), but these were denied.
