New Delhi: In a bid to control the situation following clashes between two political factions over a Shivaji statue, Telangana imposed Section 144 in Bodhan town of Nizamabad district on Sunday.

According to local BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri, a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji was planned to be erected at the Ambedkar crossroad of Bodhan town that shares a border with Maharashtra. However, raising objections to the decision, he alleged that the AIMIM and TRS workers opposed to the statue’s installation.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Dharmapuri said, “The same crooked mindset..Demolish ours--Accomplish theirs! MIM and TRS goons trying to thwart the unveiling of the statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and destroy the statue set up at Bodhan Ambedkar Chowrasta accepted by a municipal resolution.”

Dharmapuri said that the scuffle turned violent when the AIMIM and TRS supporters pitted against the BJP and Shiv Sena activists. Section 144 had to imposed to prohibit further escalation of the matter, he added.

Earlier, on Saturday too, a scuffle broke out between the TRS and BJP over the statue installation.

The trouble began when a local BJP cadre installed the Chhatrapati Shivaji statue and decided to get it inaugurated by Arvind on the birthday of the Maratha king.

Activists of both parties also pelted stones at each other and a sub-inspector and a woman personnel of Dharna Palli police station were also injured in the clash.
