Hyderabad: Minister KTR Inaugurates GHMC Ward Office System, Will Swiftly Address Civic Issues

GHMC Ward system aims to address public complaints about civic services at the ward level and promote decentralisation and people-centric governance.

Terming it a milestone in the city's administrative reforms, Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao inaugurated the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) ward office system in Kachiguda. The system aims to address public complaints about civic services at the ward level and promote decentralisation and people-centric governance.

Under this system, each of the 150 wards in Hyderabad will have a ward office led by an Assistant Municipal Commissioner and supported by a team of 10 officials from departments such as road maintenance, sanitation, entomology, town planning, electricity, and water supply.

"This will make sure that issues related to these departments are monitored and addressed efficiently at the ward level," KTR said.

Additionally, the government plans to attach officers from departments such as health and police to the ward offices in the future to ensure comprehensive service delivery.

The introduction of the ward office system aims to streamline civic services, provide faster access to residents, and enable the GHMC to address public issues and deliver efficient solutions.

The system bridges the gap in bureaucracy at the ward level and enhances local governance.

Emphasising the positive impact of this system on citizens and governance, minister KTR called for collaboration among public representatives, irrespective of their political affiliations, to work together for the success of the system.

"The government has committed to providing full support to the ward offices, regardless of the political parties represented by the public representatives," he said.

Minister KTR expressed optimism that the success of this system in Hyderabad could serve as a model for other cities in the country. If proven effective, the ward office system has the potential to revolutionize governance and service delivery nationwide. Hyderabad is already known for its good governance, and the implementation of the ward office system further strengthens its reputation in this regard.
