Four masked men unleashed gunfire killing more than 20 stray dogs and leaving several other canines critically injured in Ponnakal village, Addakula mandal of Mahabubnagar district, Telangana in the early hours of Thursday. The attack by the miscreants has left the villagers afraid and terrorized.
According to ANI, Adulapuram Goutham an activist of Stray Animal Foundation of India said, "According to the locals, after midnight, a few masked men came in the car and fired at the dogs with gun. Around 20-25 dogs were killed in the incident and several others were injured. We have filed a complaint to the police officials in this incident."

On Thursday, masked perpetrators, driving a car, roamed the streets and reportedly indiscriminately fired upon the dogs. The assault resulted in the deaths of numerous canines, while several others sustained severe injuries. Around 20-25 dogs were found dead in Ponnakal village.
Based on the information, police and veterinary teams arrived at the site to assess the situation and provide necessary assistance. The Bhutpur CI Ramakrishna, Addakula SSI Srinivasulu also visited the spot.
Preliminary investigations revealed that it was a targeted attack and raised questions about the motives behind the acts of violence against animals. Further, the authorities have also launched a hunt for the miscreants.
The police have registered a case under section 429 of Indian Penal Code and other sections of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and Arms Act based on a complaint from a village panchayat leader.
