Telangana: Justice Satish CHyderabad: Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office to new Telangana High Court Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma at the Raj Bhavan here on Monday. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and Legislative Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy were also present.
President Ramnath Kovind had approved the appointment of Justice Satish Chandra Sharma as the Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court on the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium. The appointment was announced through a gazette notification on Saturday.
Justice Satish Chandra Sharma was born on November 30, 1961 in Bhopal. His father BN Sharma, an agriculture expert, was the Vice Chancellor of Barkatullah University, while mother Shanti Sharma had been a district education officer.
Sharma completed his secondary education in Jabalpur and BSc from Harisingh Gour University in Sagar, getting distinction marks in all three subjects. He also received the National Merit Scholarship and completed his LLB in 1984 from the same university, winning three gold medals.
He was registered as a lawyer on September 1, 1984 and obtained the rank of Senior Advocate from the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2003 at the age of 42.
In 2004, Sharma was appointed to the panel of senior government counsel.
He became Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2008 and Permanent Judge in 2010.
Sharma was transferred to the Karnataka High Court on January 4, and had been serving as acting CJ in the Karnataka High Court since August 31.
After the formation of the Telangana High Court on January 1, 2019, Justice Satish Chandra Sharma is its 4th Chief Justice. The first CJ was Justice TB Radhakrishnan, who was followed by Justice RS Chauhan. The third CJ was Justice Hima Kohli, who was recently promoted to the Supreme Court.
