Hyderabad: Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao inaugurated a state-of-the-art cath lab to treat heart diseases in Khammam on Friday.


This is the first cath lab set up in a district other than Hyderabad. Cath lab services are currently available at Osmania Hospital, NIMS and Gandhi Hospitals in Hyderabad. 


On the occasion, Harish Rao also inaugurated the Trauma Care and Milk Bank. He was accompanied by minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar. The event was attended by MP Nama Nagashwara Rao, MLC Tata Madhusudan, MLCs Kandala Upender Reddy, Ramulu Nayak, TSMSIDC chairman Errolla Srinivas and other health department officials.


Speaking on the occasion, Minister Harish Rao said, "We have started a Cath Lab at the cost of Rs 7.5 crore. This is the fourth Cath Lab in the state. The Cath lab services are only available at super-speciality hospitals - NIMS, Osmania and MGM in Hyderabad. Now, treatment for heart problems, costing lakhs of rupees, is available free of cost. Cardiologists have also been hired for this purpose. "


Harish Rao added that as per the wish of Minister Puwada Ajay Kumar, the government will soon make chemotherapy and radiotherapy services available for cancer patients at these labs.


On the Covid front, the minister said that the fever survey in the state has been completed in several districts. The second round of surveys has also begun. So far, 77,33,427 households in the state have been surveyed under the door -to-door fever survey and 3,45,951 kits have been provided.
