Hyderabad: Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao has requested the Indian government to arrange special planes to evacuate Telangana students stranded in war-torn Ukraine, stating that the state government is willing to cover all of the students' travel expenses.
In a tweet addressed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, KTR wrote,"Humble appeal to Sri @DrSJaishankar Ji on the plight of students from Telangana stranded in Ukraine🙏 We appeal to Govt of India to arrange for special aircrafts & Telangana Govt is ready to bear the full travel expenses for these students so we can bring them home safe & soonest."
Earlier on Thursday, the minister had urged the external affairs ministry to bring back the Indian students who were stranded in Ukraine.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday announced that the state will bear expenditure to evacuate the students of Tamil Nadu stranded in the war-torn country amid escalating tension between Ukraine and Russia.
A press release from the Chief Minister's office said, "As 5,000 students who went to pursue their higher education are stranded in the foreign nation, helpline numbers have been provided by the state, district and national authorities to extend help for them. Till 10 am on Friday, 916 students and Tamil Nadu people settled in Ukraine contacted Tamil Nadu government."
