Four women died after the family planning surgery failed at a government civil hospital in Ibrahimpatnam, Rangareddy District.  At the family planning operation camp in Ibrahimpatnam, a total of 34 women were operated on, out of which four developed complications. While Mamata, 25, and Shushma, 26, died in this incident on Monday. Maunika, 25, and Lavanya, 25, died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment.


The incident has triggered protests by the locals who heckled the local TRS MLA. The police force has been deployed to maintain law & order in the suburb of Hyderabad. 


Meanwhile, Telangana Director of Public health G Srinivasa Rao on Tuesday said "on the 25th of this month, family planning operations were conducted as part of the national camp at Ibrahimpatnam. 34 people were successfully operated on at civil hospital in Ibrahimpatnam. Unfortunately, four lives were lost. Thirty people who underwent surgery were screened again".


The Director of Public Health said that the government announced a compensation of Rs 5 Lakh, 2BHK house, and free education for the children of the deceased.

He said that so far, 502 DPL camps have been organized. Women voluntarily come to these camps and undergo operations. He said that 111 fixed-day surgeries were performed this year.


Doctors who performed surgery in Ibrahimpatnam have experience of serving thousands of surgeries in the past. It has been revealed that the Ibrahimpatnam CHC superintendent has been suspended for life, and the doctors who performed the surgery have been temporarily suspended.


Srinivasa Rao said the state government has ordered an inquiry into the matter and asked for a detailed report to be submitted within a week.
