Hyderabad: Four persons were killed and 14 others were injured in a road accident at Shayampet in Telangana on Friday.


Police said that the incident took place when a truck hit an auto trolley carrying the labourers who were on their way to work in the fields. The collision occurred near Kasturba School in Mandariapeta suburb of Shayampet zone of Hanumakonda district.


Three persons were killed on the spot, while the fourth one died at MGM Hospital in Warangal while undergoing treatment, police added. All of the people that died were women. Three of the deceased have been identified as Manjula (48), Vimala (50), and Renuka (48).


According to Shayampet sub-inspector Veerabhadra Rao, twenty-five women labourers from Pattipaka village in the Shayampet zone were on their way to work in the fields when a truck collided with the auto trolley they were travelling in.

ACP of Parkal reached the spot on receiving information and immediately rushed the injured to Warangal MGM Hospital. The doctors said the condition of some of the injured was critical.


According to an IANS report, local MLA G Venkatraman Reddy visited the hospital and announced a compensation of Rs 75,000 each to the families of the deceased on behalf of the government and another Rs 25,000 each on his behalf. He also announced an assistance of Rs 10,000 to each of the injured.
