New Delhi: BRS Working President and Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “hoodwinking” the people of Telangana with his promise of forming a committee to look into the demands of Madigas, an SC community in the state, news agency PTI reported. "Committee again means delayed justice. We have resolved in the state assembly long back with respect to SC categorisation...(if) Mr Modi is sincere then he should just implement it. He should not appoint another committee to study. Basically, this shows that he is not interested and he is merely hoodwinking people," news agency PTI quoted Rao as saying.

The IT minister’s remark comes a day after PM Modi, while addressing a rally in poll-bound Telangana, said a committee would be formed to empower the Madigas with regard to their demand of sub-categorisation within the SC community.

Taking potshots at the ruling BRS and accusing CM K Chandrashekar Rao of “crushing” the Dalit aspirations, PM Modi had said, “"We are committed to end this injustice at the earliest...It is our promise that we will soon constitute a committee that will adopt all possible ways for empowering you. You and we also know that a big legal process is going on in the Supreme Court. We consider your struggle to be just.”

Mocking the prime minister, KT Rama Rao said PM Modi can try and make any promise he wants but the BJP will not feature in the race for the Telangana elections.

“PM Modi can try whatever he can. He can do whatever likes to. But the fact remains that his party is not in the race in Telangana,” PTI quoted Rao as saying.

It is to be noted that elections to the 119-member Telangana Assembly will be held on November 30. The results will be announced on December 3.
