Hyderabad: There is a sudden spike of Dengue cases in Telangana and there has been a significant spike in Hyderabad as the city has reported nearly 450 cases in the last few weeks.


Here are the districts where the dengue prevalence is significant:


1. Hyderabad: 447
2. Khammam: 128
3. Rangareddy: 114
4. Medchal: 89
5. Adilabad: 69
6. Kothugudem: 49
7. Nizamabad: 39
8. Nirmal: 30

The Breteau Index (BI), which is the index for the measure of Aedes Aegypti mosquito and virus transmission in an area, is highest in Hyderabad which stands at 46 per cent.


To contain Dengue, the health department in collaboration with GHMC to launch anti-larval measures in Hyderabad. “At present, dengue is still under control. However, public must take immediate precautions, so that it does not become an outbreak, which happened in 2019,” Director of Public Health (DPH) Dr G Srinivasa Rao said as quoted by Telangana Today.


"Twenty diagnostic labs across the state are doing 1,500 tests per day. It's important for people to get tested and not self medicate," said Director of Public Health.


“Symptoms of Covid and seasonal ailments are similar. I urge people not to get confused and remain under the impression that they have Covid. Dengue is life-threatening and it’s important to diagnose early so that it does not escalate into dengue haemorrhagic fever, which is fatal. They should visit the nearest government hospital for getting tested,” he told Telangana Today.


There is a decline in Covid cases as on Wednesday, the state has reported 424 cases with two people succuming to the virus.
