Clearing his stand on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has said his party would oppose the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) if a bill was introduced in Parliament. The BRS president said that the move to introduce UCC was part of the Centre's agenda to create divisions among people.
KCR emphasised that India, with its rich diversity of cultures, traditions, castes, and religions, serves as a role model for promoting unity amidst diversity in the world. He stated that the proposed UCC threatens to undermine this diversity and unity.
"The BJP-led NDA government is already fomenting trouble among people in different ways, ignoring the nation's development, and is again planning tricks to divide the people of the country in the name of UCC," KCR was quoted as saying in an official release.
KCR stated that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) vehemently opposes the UCC in order to protect India's cultural and religious diversity. The Telangana CM conveyed his stance to a delegation of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), which had requested his support in opposing the UCC if it were to be introduced in Parliament.
CM KCR made it clear that the BRS had been opposing the Centre's decisions that were detrimental to the unity of the people of the country. He noted that the proposed Uniform Civil Code (UCC) had caused confusion and concern among various sections of society, including tribals and people from different castes.
The delegation from the AIMPLB, led by President Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, met CM KCR at Pragati Bhavan. During the meeting, the AIMPLB said the UCC posed a significant threat to the existence of the people of the country and their inherited traditions and cultures.
AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, MLA Akbaruddin, Telangana ministers Mahmood Ali, KT Rama Rao, Board executive members and others participated in this meeting.
During the meeting, KCR said the imposition of the UCC was a malicious attempt by the Union government. He accused the BJP-led government of neglecting the country's development and the welfare of its people for the past nine years.
KCR made it clear that the BRS would oppose the UCC bill during the upcoming Parliament Monsoon session. The BRS also plans to join forces with like-minded political parties to oppose the proposed UCC bill.
The Chief Minister instructed parliamentary party leaders K Keshava Rao and Nama Nageshwar Rao to devise an action plan to challenge the Central government's stance on the UCC bill in both houses of Parliament.
