Hyderabad: Due to a spike in Covid-19 cases, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced that all educational institutions in the state would be closed from January 8 to 16. The Chief Minister declared this on Monday at Pragati Bhavan, the CM's camp office.


Health Minister Harish Rao and CM KCR met with their superiors to discuss the situation of Corona in the state. They reviewed corona conditions and the intensity of Omicron variant diffusion.


Officials briefed CM KCR on the lockdown at the meeting. They suggested that lockdown was unnecessary, the CM said.


CM KCR directed officials to focus on infrastructure in government institutions. He also decided to establish more 'Basti Dawakhanas' (clinics in residential areas) throughout the state to provide medical services to the general public.


He warned everyone to be cautious around the Omicron variety and take appropriate precautions to combat the virus. He told the officials to set up the necessary beds and keep the hospitals' oxygen levels up.

Minister Harish Rao said that Corona vaccines for children are currently available at 1,014 centres across the state. He said it was also permissible to vaccinate children in private hospitals. Vaccinations were given online in 12 corporations and on a walk-in basis in other areas said, Harish Rao. He added that a birth certificate, Aadhaar card and college ID card are sufficient for registration.


Harish Rao said there was no need for any myths on corona vaccines in the case of children. He said the vaccine would act as a protective shield for children. As corona and omicron cases are rising in the state, the positivity rate has quadrupled in the last week, the minister said. The government was fully prepared to face the third wave he added.
