Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said the state government would soon take up the caste census as promised. The caste census was part of the election poll promise of the Congress party before Telangana Assembly Elections 2023.

During a meeting addressing concerns of minorities, backward classes, and tribal welfare departments, Reddy instructed officials to initiate the caste census, as per an official release. The CM also urged officials to draft budget estimates for implementing the 'Kalyanamastu' scheme, providing one tola gold and Rs 1 lakh financial assistance to girls from BPL families during their marriage.

In addition, he directed officials to prepare cost estimates for all government welfare hostels ensuring that funds are released through a 'green channel' based on estimated expenditures. The CM instructed officials to provide details on government residential schools currently housed in rented buildings and identify lands for constructing their own buildings along with estimating the funds required for construction.

Furthermore, the CM proposed the establishment of a coaching center for backward classes in one Parliamentary constituency and suggested creating an 'integrated education hub' for SC, ST, and BC welfare residential educational institutions instead of maintaining them separately. This approach aims to enhance maintenance and supervision, according to the release.

Before the Assembly Elections, Congress unveiled 'Farmers Declaration,' 'SC, ST Declaration,' and 'Youth Declaration' as pledges to Telangana voters. The party also presented six guarantees for the state. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi stated, "We commit to providing Rs 2,500 monthly financial assistance to women in Telangana through the Mahalakshmi scheme, offering gas cylinders at Rs 500, and providing free travel for women in TSRC buses throughout the state. To meet the aspirations of the people of Telangana, we are announcing 6 guarantees and are dedicated to fulfilling each one of them."
