In an unexpected turn of events ahead of Lok Sabha Elections, former IPS officer and Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) Telangana president RS Praveen Kumar tendered his resignation from the party on Saturday. Earlier, Kumar had held discussions with Bahujan Rashtriya Samithi (BRS) chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and jointly announced a Lok Sabha poll alliance between BSP and BRS.

On Friday, Praveen Kumar also announced that BSP would contest General Elections in two seats – Nagarkurnool (SC) and Hyderabad (General) – in Telangana with the remaining constituencies open for BRS candidates.

Taking to X, Dr.RS Praveen Kumar said, "Dear fellow Bahujans, I am unable to type this message, but I must do it anyway, as the time to take new path has arrived now. Please forgive me for this post and I have no choice left."

"With heavy heart I have decided to leave Bahujan Samaj Party. I don’t want the image of this great party to suffer because of recent decisions (no matter how well informed they are) in Telangana under my leadership," he said.
